Although non-ferrous scrap recycling is a several centuries -old activity, driven by the high-value of metals, and EUROMETREC members perpetuate this activity using state of the art techniques, and improve continuously the quality and quantity of recycled non-ferrous secondary metals
EUROMETREC, the European Metal Trade and Recycling Federation is located in Brussels, Belgium and was created in 1990 from the Liaison Committee for non-ferrous metals trade within the E.E.C, which was itself formed in 1969. In 2016, EUROMETREC lost its legal personality and is now as a Branch part of EuRIC.
EUROMETREC, the European Metal Trade and Recycling Federation, aims at promoting the recycling of waste containing non-ferrous metals, as well as the high environmental benefits associated to it. Non-ferrous metals, including, but not limited to, copper and aluminum, are the material basis for a low carbon and digitalized economy. By recycling those metals, EUROMETREC members also help saving the important CO2 emissions and energy consumption related to primary metals production.
Did you know?
On top of saving primary resources, copper recycling saves a very significant amount of CO2 emissions and energy. Recycling saves about 65%
of CO2 emissions and 85% of energy consumption compared to the production of primary copper. It is even better for aluminium recycling,
which saves 92% of CO2 emissions and 95% of energy consumption compared to primary aluminium production.
EUROMETREC Branch's main objectives are:
To establish a permanent liaison between the accredited representatives of the national member associations and the European institutions (the Commission, Parliament and Council etc.,) and with organisations inside or outside the EU.
- To maintain a link between the national member associations of the EU Member States, in strict observance of relevant legal requirements.
- To ensure the proper representation of the member associations and of the non-ferrous metal recycling and trade industry in order to promote non-ferrous metals recycling, encourage free and fair trade as well as the use of secondary non-ferrous metals and improve business opportunities for the industry.
- To study and examine all legal, environmental, economic and technical aspects of the processing, recycling, transport and trading of non-ferrous metals by the member associations and their affiliated firms in the EU.
To gather, exchange and disseminate all information relevant to these objectives, in strict observance of relevant legal requirements.
EUROMETREC Branch Members
EUROMETREC Branch members are national associations in the EU Member States representing the interests of companies that are primarily involved in the collection, processing, recycling and trade of non-ferrous metal scrap. Non-ferrous metal scrap companies also recover the materials from a wide variety of sources (industrial plants, car dismantlers, municipal authorities, demolition, food and beverage containers, construction, etc.). Besides, a significant number of these companies are involved in the recycling of Waste of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), enabling the sound environmental management and value recovery from this complex waste stream. In the EU Member States, more than a thousand large companies and SMEs are represented through EUROMETREC Branch.
